上海话剧艺术中心和英国壁虎剧团正在排演一部新戏《惊梦》，故事灵感来源于汤显祖的《牡丹亭》和莎士比亚的《仲夏夜之梦》。 汤显祖比莎士比亚年长十四岁，两人在同一年去世。他们虽素昧平生，却又遥相呼应，在同一个时代创造出东西方戏剧艺术的巅峰之作。 纪录片《邂逅》以中英艺术家的创作活动为切入点，钩沉历史，还原汤显祖与莎士比亚的戏剧人生。力图让观者在欣赏中国传统艺术之大美的同时，重新认识作为一个士大夫的有血有肉的汤显祖，揭示名著《牡丹亭》诞生背后的故事。。The script is set in 1759.
