故事根据约翰·盖2004年所著传记《真实的玛丽·斯图亚特》改编。讲述了玛丽·斯图尔特（西尔莎·罗南 饰）幼年时就被带到法国与亨利二世的长子弗朗西斯订婚。但弗朗西斯在继位一年后去世，玛丽·斯图尔特顶住压力拒绝再婚。她回到了苏格兰，想要重新获得自己的王冠，但是此时的苏格兰与英格兰都在伊丽莎白一世（玛格特·罗比 饰）的统治之下。玛丽·斯图尔特通过努力，拿回了王室地位，但这也对伊丽莎白一世的统治造成了威胁。。This story has a horse-race fan main character who sells clothes-hangers On one trip, a young, teenager boy relative goes with him.
