该剧讲述了主人公狩野整天在家闭门不出，他靠着以前从出版社获得的漫画奖金过着枯燥无聊的生活。某一天，他的隔壁突然搬来了一个5岁的孩子小太郎。最初，狩野在心里想：“为什么这个孩子一个人住！？”“啊?莫非是我的孩子！？”由于他不想被卷入麻烦中，因此在生活里处处躲避着这个独居的小孩。但当他知道了小太郎大人般言行背后所隐藏的是“想变得强大”的恳切心情后，就开始照顾起小太郎来。。1951年在中国西北沙漠地带，解放军某骑兵连奉命对特务头子金冶中及起武装残余进行围剿。经过激烈战斗，敌人大部被歼，但是金冶中和两个敌兵却漏网逃逸。一班长钟永明虽然负伤，却坚持带着战士李玉根和小姜，继续追击穷寇。途中遇到大风，使敌人的遗迹消失，他们便兵分三路继续追寻。不久，小姜追上敌人，只身与敌人进行搏斗，金冶中的坐骑和一敌兵被击毙，但自己也不幸负伤。钟永明、李玉根闻声及时赶到并继续追击敌人。。Five carpoolers travel in a motorhome to reach a common destination.
