故事开始于怀俄明州的乡间，主人公怀厄尔普就出生在那里。为了参加南北战争报效祖国，怀厄尔普离家出走英勇的赶往前线，却因为年龄的问题而被拒绝入伍。之后，怀厄尔普开始攻读法律，并且邂逅了名为乌瑞拉的女子。两人双双坠入爱河之后很快便携手步入了婚礼的殿堂. 然而，幸福美满的日子却并没有维系太长的时间，一场大病夺走了乌瑞拉的生命，令怀厄尔普陷入了绝望和自暴自弃之中。就在他濒临崩溃之时，父亲尼古拉斯来到了他身旁，将怀厄尔普重新引回了正途。。Michael Keegan-Dolan is one of the most remarkable choreographers working in dance and theatre today.
